vc_icon_introduction.png Introduction

We will begin our study of the Old Testament Prophets with an introduction to the prophetic office in ancient Israel as well as a survey of the prophets' geographical and historical contexts.

Next, we will examine those prophets ministering during the period of Assyrian power. In Jonah, God's sovereign mercy is highlighted by the contrast of His prophet's rebellion and pagan repentance. Hosea, through his life and message, confronts Israel's spiritual adultery, alternating between words of imminent judgment and future restoration. Finally, Amos confronts the disconnect between Israel's relationship with God and their relationships with one another, foretelling coming judgment with a glimmer of hope for future restoration.
