Through the self-paced virtual lessons and live mentoring workshops, participants will learn the core components of Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) theory as well as the impacts of sensory integration challenges on participation in school.
This course is designed for licensed OTs and COTAs who work in a school-based setting and desire to deliver a comprehensive evidence-based ASI approach. Those who hold a Certificate in ASI from CLASI are very welcome, as this course goes deeper into applying these concepts in schools.
OTPs will gain a better understanding of when and how to apply concepts of Ayres Sensory Integration® to support student engagement, participation, and function across all 3 tiers of MTSS in the school setting. The course includes the latest research; addresses common barriers to implementing school-based ASI, including training, funding, access to equipment and space; and presents an Advocacy Toolkit to support OTPs in their role of ensuring all students, regardless of sensory challenges, have equitable access to the support they need in school. All participants gain access to the recently developed Guidelines for Occupational Therapy Using Ayres Sensory Integration® in School-Based Practice as well as clear support on how to implement them in service of a systematic, evidence-based, and data-driven approach to the role of the school-based OTP.
The course takes a unique comprehensive approach to teaching the concepts:
• Asynchronous lessons to fit into the busy schedule of school-based practitioners.
• Learning activities to help participants apply the concepts.
• Cohort model to foster shared group learning, built-in peer support, and the opportunity for community-building and collaboration throughout the course and beyond.
• Ongoing mentorship through live sessions and facilitated discussion boards throughout the course and upon course completion to give participants the unique opportunity to be guided by experts as they explore together and in real time their successes and challenges bringing theory into practice.
